CAN THE SIGNWRITER COMPUTER PROGRAM
BE USED ON THE MACINTOSH?

YES!

USING SIGNWRITER 4.3 ON THE MACINTOSH

The SignWriter Computer Program, version 4.3, is an MS-DOS program. It works beautifully on a Macintosh, combined with special software that makes it possible to run IBM programs on the Macintosh.

There are two such Macintosh programs to choose from...

1. "Virtual PC" for the Power Mac

2. "SoftPC Universal" for all Macintoshes

VIRTUAL PC FOR THE POWER MAC

With Connectix Virtual PC you can run IBM PC software on your Macintosh. It is a Power Mac application that will support Mac OS 8 when it is available. It sells for $149 to $169 and includes a full version of either Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 3.11/MS-DOS. Also included is Aladdin Stuffit Expander for Mac OS and Windows, and a $25 competitive upgrade rebate for SoftWindows owners.

Here is a description of the two versions of Virtual PC:

Virtual PC Windows 95 Version:

Any PowerPC 603e (180mhz or faster); or any 604e or 604 recommended RAM: 24MB installed physical RAM minimum; 32MB recommended. Hard Drive: 150MB minimum hard drive space; 300MB recommended. System 7.5.5 or later; CD-ROM drive.

SOFTPC FOR ALL MACINTOSHES

In the past, we (the DAC) always used a version of SoftPC, called "SoftPC Universal", that costs around $99. Recently we found out that a lot of stores have stopped carrying this older version of SoftPC and only carry a new version called SoftWindows. You do not need SoftWindows to run SignWriter. SignWriter is not a Windows program, it is a DOS program. So....we contacted the developers of SoftPC, Insignia Solutions, to find out if they were still selling the cheaper, older version of SoftPC.

Good news!! Yes they are. But instead of buying it from a software store, you should call them and they will mail it directly to you. Here is a copy of their letter to us, with all of the information:

COPY OF LETTER FROM INSIGNIA SOLUTIONS:

"SoftPc Universal" is an older product and our resellers may just choose not to stock it. "SoftPc Universal" is available direct and if they contact me at 1-800-848-7677 and ask for Marylyn @ extension 7220, I would be happy to sell them the product for $99. This is less than you would usually find at the reseller and comes w/ a 30 day money back guarantee direct from us. It can be used on all Macintoshes, and is only for DOS software.

They can always call and ask for their particular machine, what is available to run this one application. My email address is marylyn.bigler@insignia.com if they would like to place an order w/ credit card info and ship to street address, or if they would like to ask any questions.

Sincerely,
