In summary, I just wrote a very simple sign. It is one of the many signs for HELP in ASL:


What step-by-step process did I follow?...

1. Write the CENTER of the sign.

2. Write the Movement, relating to the CENTER, in one of 8 possible positions. In this case, it was the UP position.



4. What if the movement is forward, instead of up?
If the movement is straight FORWARD, the arrows encircle the CENTER once again, but now they are arrows with single-stems. Pretend you are looking down on the movement, from the Top View. The movement is parallel with the Floor:
