April 9, 2001 Dear SW List and Stefan! Below is a diagram that Stefan wrote...and the typed English in that diagram is Stefan's explanation of how he was interpreting the positions... I would describe each position a little differently: 1a. The side of the Angle Hand is touching the back of the head. The fingers are pointing to the left side wall. 1b. The side of the Flat Hand is touching the back of the head. The fingers are pointing up. 2a. The fingertips of the Angle Hand are touching the back of the head. The fingers are directed almost exactly straight forward, but slightly on an "in-diagonal". The fingers are not pointing side, nor are they pointing up. They are parallel with the floor pointing forward, but slightly on a diagonal toward the left front corner. We see the back of the hand. 2b. The palm of the Flat Hand is touching the back of the head. The fingers point up. We see the back of the hand. 3a. The fingertips of the Angle Hand are touching the back of the head, but the hand is also at an up-diagonal towards the left upper corner (opposite to 3b). We see the back of the hand. 3b. The palm of the Flat Hand is touching the back of the head, but the fingers are pointing to the up-right-corner (opposite to 3a). We see the back of the hand. 4a. The fingertips of the Angle Hand are touching the back of the head, but the hand is also at a down-diagonal towards the left lower corner. We see the back of the hand. 4b. The palm of the Flat Hand is touching the back of the head, but the fingers are pointing to the up-left-corner. We see the back of the hand. To check these descriptions, take a photo of someone from the back, and literally write the Angle Handshape on the photo, matching the way it looks in real life as best as you can....The example 2a is one exception that needs rules because it is hard to see, but most of them will match the visual picture exactly. | |||||
